Enid Collins designed painted and jewelled box bags and canvas bucket bags under the name Collins of Texas, from 1959 until she sold the company to Tandy Leather in 1970. The signature on the bag tells you which side of that sale it falls, and collectors prefer the earlier bags.

Company history

CoolOldStuff's collector guide records that Collins of Texas opened in Medina, Texas, in 1959 and that Enid Collins ran it until 1970, when Tandy Leather Corporation bought it. The company made two main types, wooden box purses and canvas bucket bags, hand decorated with paint, sequins and rhinestones in themed designs and finished with leather trim and brass fittings. In the late 1960s it sold do-it-yourself kits called Sophistikits, which produced many imitation Collins bags.
